CEREC “Crown-In-One-Day” CEREC is a CAD/CAM (computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing) milling system that uses diamond drills to precisely cut a block of porcelain into a well-fitting dental restoration. Traditionally, it takes two or more appointments to fabricate a ceramic crown. We can have the crown fabricated, baked (for strength) and cemented onto your tooth in approximately 2 hours. There are no impressions taken in your mouth and no temporary crowns to deal with. The CEREC system has been in use for almost three decades. Studies show that teeth restored by the CEREC system are strengthened by saving more of the healthy part of the tooth and removing only the damaged portions. Many millions of CEREC dental restorations have been completed worldwide and the number grows every day. The beauty and strength of bonded porcelain/ceramic materials have long been recognized as a superior method for dental restorations. CEREC can be used to create inlays, onlays or crowns. Bonded Porcelain Inlay A bonded porcelain inlay is a small porcelain/ceramic filling that covers the grooves of a tooth between its cusps. ﷯ Bonded Porcelain Onlay A bonded porcelain onlay is a larger porcelain/ceramic filling that covers one or more cusps or corners of a tooth. Bonded porcelain/ceramic onlays and inlays have advantages over other filling materials because they add strength to the tooth. Porcelain/ceramic materials are also harder and more durable than white composite fillings. When an inlay or onlay is bonded to a tooth, it creates a resilient, tight seal against bacteria, and can be custom coloured to match the teeth. Crown (also known as a “cap”) A crown is a dental restoration that fits over a tooth, replacing most of its enamel. This provides a strong and durable biting surface to decrease the risk of fracture. Crowns are used to restore broken teeth, old fillings that are failing, teeth that have had root canal treatment, and chipped or sensitive teeth.
