Holistic Dental Procedures

With a Holistic approach we want to help you realize the best state of health of you mouth and body!

At our family practice, we believe that the condition of your mouth affects the state of health of your entire body. For the past 30 years, we have been providing patients with viable biocompatible treatment options because dental work does have an affect on the body as a whole. At the same time, we are able to achieve quality cosmetic results.

In order to accomplish these goals we employ State-of-the-Art dental techniques and materials along with understanding both you and your family’s health situation. Combined with proper home care and other preventative actions, we truly offer an holistic approach to dental care along with  quality cosmetic results.

Dental Procedures: Restorative & Cosmetic Dentistry

Holistic dentistry focuses on using biocompatible dental materials in patient treatments to reduce possible toxic overload and allergic reactions, especially for those who are chemically sensitive. Our practice is “amalgam free” or “mercury free” due to the concern about toxicity problems. Amalgam Removal and replacement with natural-looking bonded materials is a specialty of our practice.

Along with our holistic approach to dentistry, we continue to provide our patients with good cosmetic results. Cosmetic dentistry refers to a natural and attractive look, through techniques such as bonding, veneers, crowns, (caps) and more. All of this can be done using materials that are biocompatible with the patient while employing  modern and  the latest dental techniques.

There are currently many different types of  filling materials. There are composite resins and porcelain/ceramic materials used for fillings, inlays, onlays, crowns and veneers. Composite resin dental fillings are tiny glass particles suspended in a resin (plastic) matrix, and when bonded into place can actually strengthen the tooth. Bonded porcelain/ceramic materials are used to restore teeth with larger cavities, teeth that are fractured, or have older failing restorations.

Drill-Less Dentistry uses Air Abrasion technology and functions much like sandblasting, by blowing a powerful air stream of tiny particles onto the tooth structure. Compared to regular dental drilling, the Air Abrasion process is quieter and eliminates much of the discomfort of the conventional drill and can be used without anesthetics!

DiagnodentAlong with drill-less dentistry we use a Diagnodent. This is a laser that can detect forming cavities before they become apparent to the dentist using visual detection. The Diagnodentalso will discover dental cavities before they are visible in an an x-ray. Discovered early, the dental decay can be treated with minimally invasive dentistry using the Drill-less dental air abrasion.

The CEREC System is used for fabricating porcelain/ceramic restorations (Crowns, Onlays, and Inlays) in only one appointment. When having a crown or inlay made by a lab at least two or more appointments are necessary. Studies show that a tooth restored by the CEREC system will help increase the strength of tooth! Furthermore, bonded porcelain/ceramic restorations can be matched to the exact colour of the other teeth, providing a satisfactory cosmetic result.

We help to replace missing teeth with Bridges that are constructed with non-metal porcelain products.

Dental Implants are used to replace one or more missing teeth, or to stabilize dentures. The implant acts like the root of a natural tooth, and bone actually forms around a special coating on the implant to hold the implant firmly in place. In cases where there are multiple missing teeth, or where the patient has previously had dentures, multiple implants are placed in the mouth to allow for implant-supported dental restorations. We now can offer non metal implant material. Up to now the only type of implant was made of titanium. We now have Zirconia type implants.

We now use Velscope to aid us in detecting any changes to the tissue that can potentially turn into oral cancer. Early detection is the key to successful treatment.

During consultations we gain a solid understanding of your needs, which leads to developing an action plan or strategy to maximize the value from dental treatments. We pride ourselves in getting to know you as a person and then provide effective knowledgeable advice.

Cleaning & Re-care Exams

We schedule cleaning and re-care appointments according to your needs. We have people on 3 month, 4 month, 6month and even yearly re-care schedules. It depends on the health of your mouth.

Cleaning with Ultrasonic Scaling can help to remove plaque, tartar, and reduce bacterial count below the gum line.

Home Care

As you would expect, home care is a big part of maintaining the overall health of your mouth. We actively encourage all of our patients to do the amount of care that their mouth requires in order to maximize oral health. There are many devices that can help in the daily régime of oral health, such as electric powered toothbrushes , plus oral irrigation (WaterPik).  We have available in the office a completely natural toothpaste, mouth rinse and a tonic to be used in the WaterPik irrigation. These are manufactured by the Dental Herb Company.
